Athlete Alert Terms and Conditions

New York Road Runners has partnered with TextingForward to offer family and friends of runners the ability to follow runners during the marathon by getting race day alerts via SMS/Text.

Athlete Alert is a single event messaging service, which provides participants with split times of a particular runner or runners who are running the New York City Marathon on November 7, 2010.

Web Registration:

Users who opt-in to the service via the website registration will be charged $2.99 (U.S.) to follow a maximum of 3 runners or $5.99 (international). This will be charged to the credit card selected at purchase. Depending on the type of service you subscribe to, additional message and data rates may apply. Users will receive a maximum of 15 messages per runner, per race.

On Demand Registration:

Users may also opt in to Athlete Alert via our on-demand service by texting the runner’s BIB NUMBER to the short code 99731 from their handset. Available for US handsets only. Users who opt-in to the on-demand service will be charged $2.99 per runner by their respective carrier for unlimited requests.

Once you have registered for our on-demand service, you will receive the last split times of the runner you are tracking. To receive the next split time, you must text in again. You may text in as many times as you would like.

Athlete Alert will make every attempt to deliver split times to subscribers in a timely manner but due to the nature of the service, we provide no warranty for delivery to a given subscribed wireless phone.

Delivery problems or failure can occur if a runner does not affix their timing tag properly or fails to pass over a given timing mat.

Runners are tracked using timing technology and the time data is sent from the timing company to us, the texting company, to your carrier, and finally to your phone. While the process is almost instantaneous, delays or even failed delivery can occur in these instances: If you are A. out of range, B. in a dead spot, C. your carrier delays delivery, D. your carrier is blocking messages sent to your phone, E. you have depleted the credits in your texting plan or F. Your phone is turned off!

Athlete Alert will guarantee delivery of race day alerts to all respective supported carrier queues, but final delivery to respective user handsets depend on availability of carrier network and/or use device. We will make every attempt to get splits to you in a timely fashion.

For help with Athlete Alert, users can text HELP to the short code 99731 from their mobile phones, call 1-877-271-9624 or send email to support@textingforward.com.

Users may opt-out at any time by texting STOP, QUIT, END, CANCEL, UNSUBSCRIBE or STOP ALL to the short code 99731.

If users are following more than 1 runner, users can opt-out of following all runners by texting STOP ALL, QUIT ALL, END ALL, CANCEL ALL, UNSUBSCRIBE ALL or STOP [BIB NUMBER] to only opt-out of following one runner.
