Continental Airlines International Friendship Run

Festivities begin at 8:30 a.m. The IFR begins at 9:00 a.m.

Race Distance: 4K

The Continental Airlines International Friendship Run is a free fun run for all international marathon entrants.

Friends and family of international marathoners and U.S. residents who would like to take part may purchase tickets at the expo.

Participants and spectators are also invited to the presentation of the 2009 Abebe Bikila Award prior to the race. This award is given annually to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the sport of distance running. Past winners include Fred Lebow, Frank Shorter, Bill Rodgers, Tegla Loroupe, and Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.

The run begins immediately following the ceremony.

Race Number Pickup
Entrants are required to pick up their numbers and race souvenirs in advance. Materials must be picked up at the Jacob Javits Convention Center, Hall 3E, 11th Avenue at 35th Street, Manhattan on:

Thursday, Oct. 29, 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 30, 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.


There will be no race day pickup.

Course (subject to change)
Start on First Avenue at 47th Street and head south. Right turn onto 42nd Street (heading west) to 6th Avenue. Right turn onto 6th Avenue (heading north) to 59th Street/Central Park South. Left turn onto 59th Street/Central Park South (heading west) to Columbus Circle. Course will turn into Central Park at Columbus Circle (same entrance as Marathon) and proceed up Central Park's West Drive to finish. Finish of CAIFR will be .2 miles from the Marathon Finish Line (at Mile 26).

Please note that all t-shirts distributed for the Continental Airlines International Friendship Run will be size large. There will be no baggage check for this race.
