Cancellation Policies
Updated for 2012
These policies apply to all accepted entrants EXCEPT those who applied through a charity with an official International Travel Partner, and certain Athletes with Disabilities (AWDs) who entered the race through Achilles International. Individuals who fall in these three separate categories should see our cancellation policy at the bottom of this page.
Entrants who cancel their entry for the ING New York City Marathon 2012 according to the instructions listed below will be eligible for guaranteed entry to the ING New York City Marathon 2013.
If you cancel for 2012 and wish to enter the 2013 race you will still need to apply and pay the entry fee as well as applicable fees. It is your responsibility to apply to the 2013 marathon according to the application schedule and instructions. Failure to apply according to the application schedule and instructions will result in forfeiture of your guaranteed entry.
Please note: Entrants who cancel their entry in consecutive years are no longer entitled to guaranteed entry after the second consecutive cancellation (though those who canceled in 2010 and 2011 are grandfathered in). Please read our updated Guidelines for Guaranteed Entry for a full explanation of this policy.
All fees are non-refundable. Once you have canceled, you cannot be reinstated into the ING New York City Marathon 2012. Your decision to cancel is final.
There are three ways to cancel:
Cancel online
Dates for online cancellation will be posted soon. To cancel online, you must go to your runner profile page and log in with your username and password. Use the the "Cancel My Entry" link on this page and follow the process to cancel your 2012 entry. The deadline to cancel will be announced soon.
Cancel by mail
Mailed cancellations will be accepted if postmarked between January 2, 2012 and October 31, 2012. To cancel by mail, send a note with your entry number, name, address, date of birth, and the words "cancel my entry" to: Marathon Cancellations, New York Road Runners, 9 East 89th Street, New York, NY 10128. For your convenience, we strongly recommend canceling online.
Cancel in person
From November 1-3, cancellations will be accepted in person at the ING New York City Marathon Health and Fitness Expo. Once runners have picked up their race number they cannot cancel.
International Travel Partner: If you applied through an official International Travel Partner and wish to withdraw, please contact your travel partner directly. Any withdrawn entrant will not receive guaranteed entry in the ING New York City Marathon 2013 or subsequent ING New York City Marathons.
Charity Partner: If you applied through an official charity or charity partner and wish to cancel, please contact your charity directly for cancellation requirements. Charity entrants may be eligible to receive guaranteed entry in the ING New York City Marathon 2013.
Athletes with Disabilities (AWDs): Handcyclists and other AWDs entered in 2012 through Achilles International who cancel are not eligible for guaranteed entry in a future year unless entered by Achilles International.

You may not give or sell your race number or d-tag to someone else. Anyone found participating with another person's number will be disqualified and both people will be barred from future New York Road Runners events, including the ING New York City Marathon.
