Daily Tip #9: What to Eat, Do, and Wear
Tuesday, October 25
With just over two weeks to go, we offer answers to a few burning questions, courtesy of the experts at the Official NYRR ING New York City Marathon Training Program:
- What if I really want a milkshake? With all the hard work you’ve done, you may feel entitled to an occasional splurge in the next couple of weeks. The key is finding a healthy balance between excess and abstinence. As long as your day-to-day diet is healthy, an occasional cheeseburger or hot-fudge sundae is fine, according to sports nutritionist Lauren Antonucci of Nutrition Energy.
- Is it okay to go out dancing? Continue to enjoy shopping, dancing, walking the dog, and other relaxing pursuits during your non-running leisure hours, but take care not to tire yourself out, says Official NYRR ING New York City Marathon Training Program coach and marathoner Gordon Bakoulis. Don’t introduce strenuous or unfamiliar activities, such as retiling the bathroom or helping a friend move to a new apartment. And be sure to get the sleep you need to support your training.
- Should I buy a new running bra? Remember: You don’t want to wear anything on marathon day that you haven’t road-tested during a long run. Wearing brand-new gear risks blisters and chafing. If you need anything new for race day, get it now and test it in the next week. Check out the NYRR Store http://store.nyrr.org/storefront.aspx.
